The size of the star at the center of our Galaxy may be smaller than previously believed by the scientific community. However, the size of the Sun is probably only slightly smaller.
Two astronomers from the Universities of Cambridge and Tokyo, they have found evidence that the Sun’s radius is a hundredth of a percent smaller than past calculations by experts.
It may not be much, but even such a small discovery has the potential to change scientists’ understanding of the Sun. The new results obtained by the researchers are based on sound waves, or “pressure waves” that are generated and trapped inside the hot plasma that makes up the star.
